The Social Science Club brings women together for scholarship, fellowship and social action. Begun in Newton in 1886, its membership is open to women in any nearby community who enjoy research, writing and community involvement. Members currently come from more than a dozen Greater Boston communities.
While our twice-monthly paper presentations are our main focus, the Holiday Musicale is a cherished annual tradition in December. A summer picnic and two winter "brown bag" lunch meetings, plus a festive annual meeting and luncheon promote learning and friendship.
Not so serious we can't be silly too! As a tribute to our 19th century founding members, we don hat and gloves at every annual meeting and give final committee reports in rhyme as our foremothers did.
